Ethylene oxide is often used for the sterilization of healthcare devices. The process involves exposing products to EO (or EtO) gas into a sealed chamber. EO sterilization assures that a safe and sterile product will be delivered to the hospital and the operating room.
Ethylene oxide sterilization is a chemical method consisting of 4 variables: gas, humidity, temperature and time. EO creates an alkylation reaction that disrupts the DNA structure of living cells, in our case targeting bacteria, viruses, fungi, killing them partially and preventing them from reproducing. The EO penetrates the breathable packaging and sterilizes all accessible surfaces of the product to make the products sterile.
